Treasure Corner Opportunity Shop

A shop offering pre-loved 'Treasures' ... clothing, homewares, books and small electrical appliances.

Since its inception ... some 20 plus years ago ... Treasure Corner has been responsible for the building and ongoing support of 26 Christian Outreach Ministry childrens Homes in India. Monies generated by the sale of goods from Treasure Corner goes toward the continued work in these Homes ... and the support of the children housed there. Below is the transcript provided by COM ... detailing a little of the history of Treasure Corner. We have built three more childrens Homes since this article came out ... but the philosophy remains the same ... and Treasure Corner continues to impact on Communities both here AND in India.

TREASURE CORNER
In the Heart of Mt Evelyn

As the name suggests, Treasure Corner (COM Opportunity Shop) provides more than just another shopping opportunity to the residents and surrounding communities of Mt Evelyn. There is much to be seen and enjoyed when visiting the shop, especially in its current location, 37 Wray Crescent, Mt Evelyn. Now in the heart of Mt Evelyn shopping centre, the location reflects the nature of the store and its intent.

Treasure Corner first opened its doors more than 25 years ago and has since become an integral part of not only Mt. Evelyn but more importantly Christian Outreach Ministries. Helen and Keith Greenwood answered a call from God to minister to the people of India. As a team they have served the people of India faithfully; Helen seeing an opportunity to raise money to help the children of India through the sale of second hand goods.

Funds raised by Treasure Corner contribute toward the running and maintenance costs of the 23 children’s homes (supporting a total of 1200 children) located throughout Southern India. They also make up the shortfall for any children who are not currently sponsored.

The heart of Treasure Corner is its volunteers who also have a passion to connect with the local community. Many of the volunteers have stories of how their lives have been transformed by serving and helping in the shop. They tell how they have met many people who have come not just searching for goods but for companionship. These people return time and again in search of friendship and someone who cares. The volunteers will even pick up people who want to come but have no way of getting there; the love of Jesus Christ in action reaching out to the lost and lonely.
